That evening when I created this, the cat was in mischievous mood so it decided to walk across my work-in-progress. Of course it did! And I let it.

The cat’s pawprint is a confirmation. In many mythic and esoteric traditions, animals are not separate from vision-space; they are participants. The paw mark feels like a grounding seal, a moment where the non-human world casually crosses the threshold and leaves proof of contact.

I love it - and I feel like it makes the drawing - it gives it life. The cat doesn’t interpret the space or respect its delicacy; it just steps into it. The opposition between the cat’s instinct and my careful attention and presence makes this piece ‘a record of coexistence’ - in fact, that is what I shall call it.

This is what my process is based in: celebrating spontaneity, imperfections and the accidental, and in the chaos, somehow, I find order and balance.

Last week I found myself feeling restless and very uncomfortable - there it is again I thought - that feeling, the old friend, the old identity. Oh how it loves to hijack me as I am about to rise to a higher frequency of being. I tried really hard not to be like "FFS!! Why?! Again?!" because I am practicing...still, and always, to be kinder to myself. The kinder and more accepting we can be to our whole selves means that we can offer the same freedom to others, and hopefully the ripple effects are a kinder and more accepting society. So I welcomed it...but! I still pleaded for it not to stay too long 😂 what can I say, I'm on an eternal journey!

I set out with the intention of capturing the essence of the places/countries I visited earlier this year by only using earth toned water colours (by @poemsaboutyoushop ) because in my MIND I thought that the neutrality of it would better allow the essence to come through. However, I got bored, and quickly lost steam after a couple of weeks and then a whole spiral of critical voices came to the surface about how I never finish projects I set out to do; how I always get bored half way through something; will I ever achieve anything in life?! Etc. etc.

Then I met @bryancordovaart and his sketches inspired me. ‘Hmm what if I add a pop of colour to these artworks, could that get me closer to bringing the essence out? I need to finish this project, I’ve told everyone about it!’ but somehow it wasn’t sticking or motivating enough for me to continue.

I was still in my mind. Strategizing. Coming from a place of internal damage control. I didn’t want to feel the potential shame that could come with not finishing this project. Needless to say, it froze me even more.

7 months later, I was really missing the FEELING I get when I see the colours flow onto paper from my felt tip pens and markers. I went to grab them without a goal, took two of my favourite colours out (pink and purple), and as soon as I saw the colours on paper, it hit me. That feeling of excitement. And that’s when I somehow knew that I had to use them in these artworks.

‘Fuck it, fuck the essence, let’s try it; if it fucks up it fucks up.’

It didn’t fuck up. In fact, it opened up a whole new way of approaching this project.

And THAT my friends, is how life works I concluded. At least for me.

Follow the feeling of excitement - what nurtures your soul in the purest form will reveal truth and clarity. And from that, a feeling of fulfilment.
